EGAR-control systemStorm detention systems are required in order to prevent the hydraulic overloading of sewerage networks and the waste water treatment plants at the end of the line. The task of these systems is to provide a buffer for the considerable amount of rainwater produced in wet weather conditions and to regulate its onward flow in a controlled manner. Low control systems are required to protect items of equipment located downstream and also to ensure constant flow out of the storm detention system. Only a thoroughly tried-and-tested flow control system can achieve the desired result of ensuring a constant flow, regardless of the water head within the storm detention system.

Operating principle

The constant pass forward flow consistently matches the established flow curve. In order to achieve this, an ultrasound sensor system monitors the upstream water level. If the water rises during a storm even to a pre-designated but freely-adjustable level (e.g. 10 cm), the flow control system activates and the penstock orifice closes to the correct level depending on the water level within the storage chamber. If the water level continues to rise, the orifice plate adjusts accordingly matching the design requirements and maintaining a constant pass forward flow irrespective of the head. In order to remove potential blockages, the orifice plate opens briefly at preset intervals and then returns immediately to its regulating position.

Whenever the water drops lower than the minimum preset level, the orifice plate opens completely, and therefore no storage occurs during dry weather flows. The preset flow curve can be adjusted by authorised service personnel. As an option, the system can also be used to store water upstream to flush the downstream channel using a timer mechanism.

Model types EGAR-LC

Type 1 – EGAR-LC-N

The suffix “N” denotes a “wet” installation, which means that the penstock is installed upstream in the storage area.

Type 2 – EGAR-LC-HT

The suffix “HT” denotes a “semi-dry” installation, meaning that the penstock is installed downstream in the control shaft. The flow passes through the penstock into the control chamber and passes forward.

Type 3 – EGAR-LC-T

The suffix “T” denotes a “dry” installation, meaning that the penstock is installed in “pipe” within a dry chamber.
